Heads of project:
Nadezhda Lebedeva, Tenured Professor, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia.
Klaus Boehnke, Professor, Jacobs University, Germany.

Project description:
Relevance of the project dictated by the scale of socio-economic and political transformations that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union. The indicators of these changes are changes in the patterns of culture - values, norms, identities, social capital, and social representations - beliefs, attitudes, opinions, attitudes and behavior in the various spheres of public life. In this project we will focus attention on the study of the social and psychological consequences of the changes. As a result of large-scale economic changes in Russia, much of the population was below the poverty line (according to the 2015 - 22 million). And poverty tends to reproduce in the next generation, thus children of poor parents are often not able to change their financial situation. The research aimed at studying poverty, both in adults and in children, as well as its impact on the individual psychological characteristics of personality, will help to more fully and comprehensively study the phenomenon of poverty in Russia, in particular, on the individual level. As a key principle of modern society advocates social cohesion, which are updated by the search and improvement of resources and types of integration of different, sometimes contrasting with each other groups. In the context of social transformation issues related to cultural and ethnic hostility, solidarity at the level of individual groups, as opposed to the whole society, indifference of many social groups to poverty and social exclusion of particular groups contribute to the deepening of social fragmentation. Since the basic guidelines and meanings cohesion are not universal for different countries, regions, groups and communities, we need an in-depth analysis of the mechanisms that facilitate and impede social consolidation process, which is closely connected with the problem of social integration of the Russian society as a whole and improve the institutions of inclusion of the most vulnerable groups in particular. Issues related to internal and external migration were and remain among the most relevant for Russia. In this regard, we plan to consider a number associated with the level of adaptation of migrants social and psychological characteristics as members of the host population (perceived threat, ready to discrimination against migrants in the economic sphere, religion), as well as the migrants themselves (for example, different types of social capital). We also plan the project empirically explore other highly relevant to the problems of contemporary Russian society. In particular, we consider the question of value-motivational basis of such phenomena as related to corruption, creative behavior of personality, political (in this case, electoral) behavior.
