VIII Summer School "Design of Cross-Cultural Study"

18 - 21 June 2018 in Kolomna near Moscow there was the VIII Summer School "Design of Cross-Cultural Study", organized by the International laboratory for socio-cultural research, Expert Institute, Higher School of Economics. The teachers of the school were the leading foreign researchers with a world name: Fons van de Vijver (PhD, Professor, Tilburg University, IL SCR, HSE), Klaus Boehnke (PhD, Deputy head, IL SCR, HSE; Professor, Jacobs University, Bremen) and Andreas Alif Hajar (PhD, Professor, University of Luxembourg, Esch-sur-Alzette).

The work of the school started with a lecture by Professor Klaus Boehnke, devoted to the development of cross-cultural design research (on the example of previously conducted his own cross-cultural research). Professor Fons van de Vijver continued with the report on the influence of the response style to the results of cross-cultural studies. The lecture described ways to control this effect to overcome possible bias in results.

The second day of the school began with a lecture by Professor Andreas Alif Hajar on the application of multilevel analysis in cross-cultural studies.

Further, in the format of small groups and individual consultations, the school participants discussed research projects with teachers, received advice on design, methods and data analysis.

Also on the penultimate day of the school in the evening a boat tour to Kolomna took place. The participants got acquainted with the main sights of this ancient city.

As a result of the summer school, each of the participants received valuable feedback on their research from teachers, which allowed to significantly improve it.
