Intra-family social capital in the context of an intergenerational transmission of values
On November 2 Dmirtii Dubrov took part in the "Culture matters" research seminar with the report on "Intra-family social capital in the context of an intergenerational transmission of values".
In recent years, due to socio-economic changes, there has been a violation of cultural continuity in modern society. It is generally recognized that the intergenerational transmission of values contributes to the maintenance of the intergenerational connection, preserves the knowledge of culture and cultural heritage. In this regard, it is important to understand what factors contribute to the transfer of values from one generation to another. As is known, the family (parents) is the most important agent of socialization. Therefore, one of such factors may be intra-family social capital, which allows to integrate different aspects of child-parent relations and give the fullest possible picture of how family relationships influence the process of intergenerational transmission of values.
Since the construct "intra-family social capital" is relatively new, the report presented the validation data of the structure and the methodology for its measurement. In addition, the results are presented, which testify to the existence of a link between intra-family social capital and the subjective well-being of adolescents.
